چکیده

Since 1980 the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has been involved in the design and manufacture of eleven aircraft, manned and unmanned. Recently the focus has been on light unmanned research platforms to assist a number of tertiary academic institutes with research into UAS related technologies. While there is a relatively strong focus on the control and navigation aspects of unmanned platforms, few of the institutes had access to a reasonable size, aerodynamically characterized aircraft platform to demonstrate their capabilities.

In-Trim Flight Investigations of a Conceptual Fluidic Thrust-Vectored Unmanned Tail-Sitter Aircraft

The feasibility of using a stand alone Fluidic Thrust-Vectoring (FTV) system for the purpose of longitudinal trim of an unmanned aerial vehicle is the focus of the research presented in this paper. Since the fluidic thrust vectoring requires high pressure secondary air to deflect the engine exhaust gases, this research also provides an analytical toolset for preliminary sizing of a suitable sec...

Flight Tests of an Unmanned Air Vehicle with Integrated Multi-Antenna GPS Receiver and IMU: Towards a Testbed for Distributed Control and Formation Flight

Stanford University's GPS Laboratory has integrated a new multiple-antenna GPS receiver with an inertial measurement unit into the DragonFly unmanned air vehicle. Recent successful flight tests have demonstrated the performance of the new avionics and illustrated the great potential to use the aircraft as a testbed for navigation and control experiments. Unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) are attract...

An economical approach to autopilot development and integration

Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are prohibitively expensive for use in civilian surveillance applications. This is in large part due to the manufactures need to recoup the costs of research and development. The more intelligence that is incorporated into unmanned vehicles, the more expensive it is to validate. At Cornell University an autopilot system for UAVs has been developed and ...

Development and prospect of unmanned aerial vehicle technologies for agricultural production management

Unmanned aerial vehicles have been developed and applied to support agricultural production management. Compared with piloted aircraft, an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) can focus on small crop fields at lower flight altitudes than regular aircraft to perform site-specific farm management with higher precision. They can also “fill in the gap” in locations where fixed winged or rotary winged airc...

Sensor Installation for Data Fusion for Detecting UAV Control Surface Fault

System redundancy in aircraft is very important as it ensures faulty components would not jeopardize the safety of crew and passengers. High priority system such as flight control computers, instruments system and controller for control surface mechanism have double or triple redundancy to maintain the aircraft safety. While full scale aircraft has multiple redundancy system installed, small un...
